UPSSSC PET 2025: COMPLETE GUIDE – EXAM DATE, SYLLABUS, ELIGIBILITY & 3-YEAR VALIDITY

UPSSSC PET 2025: Exam Overview

The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) conducts the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) as a common screening exam for candidates seeking various Group B and C government jobs (e.g. UP Lekhpal, Junior Assistant, X-Ray Technician, etc.) in Uttar Pradesh. The PET is a mandatory qualifying exam – only those who pass it can sit in the subsequent mains examinations for those posts. The 2025 notification (issued May 2, 2025) reaffirms that PET 2025 is an offline, two-hour test of 100 multiple-choice questions covering high-school-level topics.
Key Updates for 2025
  • Extended Validity: A major change in 2025 is that PET scores will now be valid for three years (up from one year previously). This means candidates who qualify in PET 2025 can use that score for multiple recruitment cycles over the next three years.
  • Eligibility and Pattern Unchanged: The core eligibility and exam format remain the same as before. Candidates still need at least a Class 10 (high school) education and must be 18–40 years old (as on July 1, 2025) to apply. The test continues to be offline (pen-and-paper) with 100 questions (100 marks), and a ¼-mark penalty for each wrong answer.
  • Group B & C Posts: The 2025 notification confirms PET as the gateway for both Group C and Group B (certain) posts. (Earlier, PET was primarily for Group C; now several Group B posts also require PET qualification.)
  • No New Sections: No new subjects or major syllabus changes have been announced. The exam still covers the same range of subjects as before (history, geography, arithmetic, languages, etc.).
Important Dates
  • Notification Release: May 2, 2025. (Official PDF available on upsssc.gov.in.)
  • Application Period: May 14 – June 17, 2025. Candidates must apply online during this window.
  • Correction/Last Fee Date: June 24, 2025. This is the last day to make corrections and pay the fee.
  • Exam Date: To be announced (watch upsssc.gov.in for updates).
  • Result Date: To be announced (typically a few weeks after the exam).
All dates above are as per the official notification. Candidates should also download the admit card (hall ticket) from the website once it is released (usually a few days before the exam).
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for UPSSSC PET 2025, a candidate must satisfy:
  • Education: Passed High School (Class 10) or equivalent from a recognized board. (Higher qualifications are also acceptable.)
  • Age: 18 to 40 years old as on July 1, 2025.
    • Age Relaxations: SC/ST/OBC get +5 years, Meritorious Sportspersons +5 years, Persons with Disabilities (PWD) +15 years.
  • Nationality: Indian citizen (domicile requirement is not strictly specified, but jobs are in UP).
Candidates not meeting these criteria (e.g. younger than 18 or not passing class 10) will be ineligible. (These conditions come directly from the official PET 2025 notice.)
Application Process
The application for PET 2025 is fully online via the UPSSSC website. Key steps (to be completed between May 14 and June 17, 2025) include:
  1. Visit UPSSSC website: Go to upsssc.gov.in and find the “UPSSSC PET 2025” registration link.
  2. Register: Provide basic details (name, contact, email) to create an account.
  3. Login & Fill Form: Log into your account and complete the application form with personal and educational information.
  4. Upload Documents: Upload a recent passport-size photo and scanned signature (and category certificate, if applicable) as per the prescribed format.
  5. Pay Fee: Pay the required application fee online using debit/credit card, net banking, UPI, or SBI Challan. (Fees are ₹185 for General/OBC, ₹95 for SC/ST, ₹25 for PWD.)
  6. Submit & Print: Review all entries, submit the form, and print a confirmation page for records.
Failure to submit or pay by June 24 will void the application. It’s also wise to keep the registration details and printouts safe for future reference.
Exam Pattern and Syllabus (Brief)
The PET 2025 exam is offline MCQ-based (pen-and-paper) with a total of 100 questions to be answered in 2 hours. Each correct answer earns 1 mark, and each incorrect answer carries a –0.25 mark penalty. The questions are generally at the Class 10/12 level (NCERT syllabus).
Subject-wise Coverage: The 100 questions are divided into sections as per the official pattern. Major areas include:
  • History & National Movement (e.g. ancient to modern Indian history)
  • Geography (India & world)
  • Indian Economy and Constitution & Public Administration
  • General Science (basic physics, chemistry, biology)
  • Elementary Arithmetic and Logic/Reasoning (quantitative aptitude and reasoning)
  • Languages: General Hindi and General English
  • General Awareness & Current Affairs (general knowledge, current events)
  • Data Analysis: This includes comprehension and data interpretation – for example, two unseen Hindi passages, two graphs, and two tables (totaling 30 marks)
Each of the above topics carries a fixed mark allocation (mostly 5 or 10 marks each) as per the official scheme. The detailed syllabus (e.g. history periods, economic topics, formulas, etc.) is as per the PET official notification, but broadly it tests general knowledge, basic arithmetic, and reasoning akin to a high-school curriculum.
Role in UPSSSC Recruitment
The PET serves as a preliminary eligibility test for multiple UPSSSC recruitments. In effect, qualifying the PET 2025 is mandatory to be considered for the mains exams of various Group B and C vacancies. For example, only candidates who have passed PET can apply for jobs like UP Lekhpal, X-Ray Technician, Junior Assistant, and others.
Because the PET certificate is now valid for three years, a single attempt at PET can clear the way for up to three years’ worth of recruitment drives. Shortlisted candidates (those who meet the PET cutoff) will then move on to the post-specific main examinations or skill tests. Conversely, anyone who did not take or pass the PET 2025 will not be eligible for any of the Group B/C main recruitments conducted in the validity period.
In summary, the UPSSSC PET 2025 is the gateway examination at the outset of the UPSSSC recruitment process. Aspirants must focus on meeting its basic requirements and scheduling their study accordingly, as clearing PET is the essential first step toward a Group B or C government job in Uttar Pradesh
